Description
A snowy egret (Egretta thula) hunts for fish in an estuary by San Francisco Bay.
It is among the most majestic of the herons, with stark white plumage offset by black legs and beak and yellow feet.
Like its larger cousin, the great egret, this stately bird was hunted almost to extinction for its showy plumage in the 19th century. Thanks to conservation efforts beginning in the 20th century, it is once again a common beautiful sight among coastal wetlands in the United States and Central America and South America.
The snowy egret pictured here is searching for fish at low tide. Using its sharp eyesight, it would scope out its prey and with great patience, await the perfect time to strike with lightning speed and uncanny accuracy.
This majestic bird's perseverance and ability remind me of how God will reward us when we become people of excellence, fulfilling our daily tasks with utmost diligence, perseverance and joy. The life lessons on character development we experience will go a long way toward success. Indeed, we can learn a lot by observing God's creation in nature.
