Description
Fallen leaves convey a gentle herald of autumn in this afternoon view of Redwood Creek quietly wandering through Muir Woods National Monument near Mill Valley, California. This photo was taken on Veteran's Day 2015.
A springtime photo of this view is featured in the Muir Woods gallery of my portfolio.
Redwood Creek is a short yet ecologically significant stream in Marin County just north of San Francisco.
According to Wikipedia, Redwood Creek provides a very important spawning and rearing habitat for coho or silver salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch), coastal cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarki clarki) and steelhead trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), each of which are a threatened species.
The Coast Miwok Native American tribe inhabited this area of Northern California, and were the native people of this region.
Muir Woods is home to one of the last remaining strands of old-growth coastal redwoods in the world, with an average age of 700 years and a height of up to 258 feet.
The park was established in 1908, and in the year of its centennial (2008), it was listed as an historic district in the National Register of Historic Places.
The delicate, exquisite beauty of this planet reminds us of the importance of being responsible stewards of this most precious gift the Creator has bestowed on us for which to take care for future generations to enjoy.
"The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein." Psalm 24:1, KJV (This version of Scripture is in the public domain).
