Description
“Kimnach’s Pink” orchid cactus (epiphyllum) bloomed a bit earlier this year, in time for Father’s Day 2019.
This cultivar was named after Myron Kimnach, former director of the Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California, whose pioneering work in epiphyllum hybridization has produced an amazing array of floral colors we enjoy today.
Blossoms can reach a diameter of up to 8 inches or more, but may last only two days.
Their brevity reminds us of Isaiah 40:8:
“The grass withers, the flower fades. But the Word of our God stands forever.”

Artwork notes:
Another version of Kimnach's Pink (different flower, same plant) in a horizontal, landscape-orientation is available in my floral gallery of this website, on www.PropheticPortraits.net
Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
