Description
Grandview Point lives up to its name, offering a spectacular vantage of the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona, United States.
At 7,399 feet (2,256 meters) in elevation, this scenic overlook offers dramatic panoramas of the remarkable landmark with sweeping vistas from east to west, showing several bends of the Colorado River to the east.
This photo presents a winter perspective and was taken in early February 2016 near the edge of the parking lot looking north from the South Rim. A low retaining wall separated the pavement from a sheer drop down into the canyon. I carefully stood on a pile of accumulated snow a safe distance behind the wall to take this photo peering into the canyon.
As a responsible photographer, I try to abide by an important maxim by which to live:: Safety First. This is especially applicable when touring and viewing this breathtaking landmark of creation.
Located in northern Arizona, United States, the Grand Canyon is named one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The park is immense, containing over 1.2 million acres of land measuring 1,904 square miles. The canyon itself is 277 river miles (446 km) in length, up to 18 miles (29 km) in width, and one mile (1.6 km) in depth.
The land in and around the canyon is co-managed by the U.S. National Park Service and the Native American First Nations Peoples of the Havasupai Tribe, the Hualapai Tribe, the Navajo Tribe and the Hopi Tribe.
The view in this photo is often overlooked by photographers, and gives a unique glimpse into the breathtaking spectacle of this natural wonder, with the added beauty of a blanket of snow.
"O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens." Psalm 8:1 (KJV)

Artwork notes::
An HDR (high dynamic range) effect was applied to my original photo, to bring out the colors and details of this scenic view.
Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
